Pelvic and Bladder Pain

Chronic pelvic or bladder pain is persistent discomfort in the lower abdomen, pelvis, or bladder region that can be sharp, aching, pressure-like, or burning. This pain may be constant or intermittent and often impacts daily functioning, mood, and relationships.

Causes & Risk Factors:

Pelvic/bladder pain may arise from a range of conditions including interstitial cystitis/bladder pain syndrome, endometriosis, pelvic floor muscle dysfunction, prior pelvic surgery or radiation, chronic infection, or nerve-related pain. Frequently, multiple factors coexist, which is why a systematic evaluation is important.

Treatment Options:

Treatment at Anna Pelvic Health Center is multimodal and tailored to the individual. Approaches include pelvic floor physical therapy, medications (for pain modulation or bladder symptom control), bladder instillations for selected patients, nerve stimulation or blocks, and minimally invasive procedures when indicated. Collaboration with pain specialists, physical therapists, and gynecologic surgeons is used when appropriate.

What to Expect:

Expect a thorough evaluation that may include pelvic exam, urine testing, imaging, and referral for specialized testing as needed. The focus is restoring function and quality of life through a stepwise plan that combines symptom relief with rehabilitative strategies. Improvement is often incremental, and the care team will work with you to measure progress and adjust therapies.
