If you’ve been diagnosed with ADHD before and have your diagnosis paperwork available, you can email it to records@bellaireprimarycare.com

After your first visit, we will facilitate getting your medical records from your previous provider.

If you haven’t been diagnosed before, we are still able to diagnose and prescribe medication. You don’t need to bring anything in particular to your first appointment. We use a 2 appointment process to diagnose ADHD so that our providers can learn about your medical history and symptoms from you on the first call, and then can send you requests for any specific medical history, ADHD tests/questionnaires, etc. before you have your second visit.

Please email a copy of your ID/Driver’s License and Insurance card (front and back) to ID@bellaireprimarycare.com

No, but our ADHD specialists are experienced primary care providers with advanced training in ADHD assessment. They’ve been expertly trained by psychiatrists to deliver high-quality care, though they are not psychiatrists themselves. While it’s common for primary care providers to refer patients to psychiatrists for ADHD evaluation and treatment, many are actually qualified to diagnose and manage mild to moderate ADHD cases. If you have mild to moderate ADHD symptoms, you can receive comprehensive care from our trained primary care providers, who can address both your ADHD needs and general health concerns in one practice. For more complex ADHD cases, a psychiatrist’s expertise may be necessary for diagnosis and treatment. We recommend thoroughly reviewing this FAQ to ensure our services align with your specific needs before scheduling an appointment with one of our providers.

Annual physical exams are required before starting ADHD treatment for several important reasons:

  1. To establish a baseline health assessment: A physical exam allows healthcare providers to document your overall health status, including vital signs, height, weight, and any pre-existing conditions.
  2. To ensure safe medication use: ADHD medications can affect various body systems, so a physical exam helps identify any potential risks or contraindications.
  3. To monitor growth and development: For children and adolescents, tracking growth is crucial as ADHD medications may affect height and weight
  4. To screen for other health conditions: Some health issues can mimic ADHD symptoms, so a physical exam helps rule out other potential causes of your symptoms.
  5. To assess cardiovascular health: ADHD medications can impact heart function, making it essential to evaluate your cardiovascular health before starting treatment
  6. To create an individualized treatment plan: A comprehensive physical exam provides valuable information that helps healthcare providers tailor your ADHD treatment to your specific needs
  7. To comply with insurance and legal requirements: Some insurance companies and regulations require a physical exam before prescribing ADHD medications

By conducting a thorough physical exam, healthcare providers can ensure that ADHD treatment is both safe and effective for you.

Following your diagnosis, if medications are prescribed, we will arrange to send these prescriptions to your preferred pharmacy. You may be scheduled for a 2-4 week follow-up to assess your treatment progress. Once your treatment plan is established, you will have monthly follow-up appointments to ensure ongoing management and effectiveness of your condition.

A comprehensive ADHD evaluation typically involves 2-3 appointments. Our process includes:

  1. A thorough medical evaluation, featuring an in-depth discussion of your symptoms and treatment goals.
  2. An annual physical exam conducted by our staff, or evidence of a physical exam completed within the last 12 months from your PCP.
  3. Following the medical evaluation and physical exam, your provider may prescribe controlled substance medication as part of a holistic treatment plan, if deemed appropriate.
  4. Monthly follow-up appointments (either via video or in-person) to track your symptoms, address any medication side effects, and adjust your care plan as needed.
