Sinus Infection Treatment with Bellaire Primary Care

Sinus infection, also known as sinusitis, is an inflammation of the tissue lining the sinuses. Sinuses are hollow air-filled spaces located within the bones of the face, including the cheeks, forehead, and behind the nose. When these cavities become blocked and filled with fluid, they create an environment where germs can grow, leading to infection

Symptoms of a sinus infection may include:

  1. Facial pain or pressure, particularly around the eyes, cheeks, nose, or forehead
  2. Nasal congestion or stuffiness
  3. Thick, discolored nasal discharge
  4. Reduced sense of smell and taste
  5. Postnasal drip
  6. Cough
  7. Fatigue
  8. Headache
  9. Fever (in some cases)

Treatments:

  1. Antibiotics: For bacterial sinus infections, a doctor may prescribe antibiotics.
  2. Prescription nasal sprays: Corticosteroid or allergy nasal sprays can reduce inflammation and swelling.
  3. Oral steroids: In severe cases, oral steroids or steroid injection may be prescribed.
  4. Nasal Irrigation: Use a Neti pot or saline nasal spray to flush out mucus and irritants from the nasal passage.
  5. Surgery: In chronic or severe cases that don’t respond to other treatments, surgery may be considered.
