Strep Throat Treatment with Bellaire Primary Care

Strep throat is a bacterial infection of the throat and tonsils caused by group A Streptococcus bacteria. This infection leads to inflammation and pain in the throat, often developing quickly within 2 to 5 days after exposure to the bacteria

Key characteristics of strep throat include:

  1. Rapid onset of severe throat pain
  2. Difficulty swallowing
  3. Swollen tonsils, sometimes with white patches or streaks of pus
  4. Fever
  5. Swollen lymph nodes in the neck
  6. Tiny red spots (petechiae) on the roof of the mouth

Strep throat is contagious and spreads through person-to-person contact with fluids from the nose or saliva. It requires antibiotic treatment to prevent complications and reduce the risk of spreading the infection to others
