Biography

Kim Pekin is a dedicated and experienced midwife, currently serving as a Certified Nurse-Midwife at Centreville OB-GYN and Reston Women's Center, where she supports families planning hospital births at Inova Fair Oaks Hospital. With a career in midwifery spanning over a decade and a half, Kim has attended hundreds of births and played a pivotal role in training aspiring midwives who have since embarked on their own careers in the field.

Kim began her professional journey by earning a Bachelor of Business Administration from Pacific Lutheran University in 1995. In 2009, she became a Certified Professional Midwife (CPM) and a Virginia Licensed Midwife. She later expanded her expertise by graduating with a Bachelor of Science in Nursing from George Mason University in 2022 and a Master of Science in Midwifery from Thomas Jefferson University in 2024. Kim is currently pursuing a Doctor of Midwifery (DM) at Thomas Jefferson University, with an anticipated graduation in 2027.

Beyond her clinical work, Kim is a passionate advocate for midwives and the families they serve. On a national level, she serves as the Director of Professional Development and Chair of the Board of Directors for the North American Registry of Midwives (NARM), which establishes the standards for the CPM credential. Locally, Kim has been appointed by the governor to two terms as Chair of the Virginia Board of Medicine’s Advisory Board on Midwifery and has been an active member of the Virginia Midwives Alliance, where she served as Vice President and is now the Legislative Director. Additionally, she serves on the Virginia Newborn Screening Advisory Council.

Kim and her husband have called Loudoun County home since 1999, where they have raised their seven children, including two who were born at home with midwives.
