Dr. Higgins grew up in Chesapeake and enjoys giving back to her community as a physician volunteer at the Chesapeake Care Clinic which provides health care to adults with no available insurance.
Biography
Dr. Higgins received her Bachelor of Science Degree from Old Dominion University in Norfolk, VA. She then completed her medical education at Eastern VA Medical School in 1995. She is a member of the Alpha Omega Honor Medical Society. She completed her residency training in Internal Medicine at Naval Medical Center Portsmouth in Portsmouth, VA. Dr. Higgins then served as an attending Internist at both Guam Naval Hospital and Naval Medical Center Portsmouth. In 2002, Dr. Higgins left the Navy for civilian practice and joined Chesapeake Internists where she continues to enjoy providing comprehensive and compassionate care to her patients. Dr. Higgins is board certified in internal medicine. Areas of clinical expertise include diabetes, hypertension, hyperlipidemia, women’s health, preventive medicine and annual physical exams, emotional health (depression/anxiety), and thyroid disease
