COVID vaccine 2025-2026

Dear Parent/Guardian,

Coleman Pediatrics will be offering COVID-19 vaccines for 2025/2026. Please call the office at (301)468-9225 to schedule an appointment. The American Academy of Pediatrics (AAP) strongly recommends COVID-19 vaccines for children in high-risk groups, including all children 6 months to 23 months of age, and that the COVID-19 vaccine be available for any child whose parent or guardian desires them to have the protection of the vaccine. The FDA has currently approved COVID-19 vaccine only for pediatric patients who have at least one condition which puts them at high risk for severe illness.  We strongly agree with the latest COVID vaccine recommendation by the American Academy of Pediatrics.

We will be offering the Pfizer Comirnaty vaccine for our patients who are 12 years of age or over and the Moderna Spikevax vaccine for our patients who are 6 months to 11 years of age. The vaccines can reduce the risk of severe illness and hospitalization and can protect against long-term complication of COVID-19 infection. Common side effects of these vaccines include pain/redness/swelling at the site of infection, fatigue, headache, muscle pain, chills, fever, nausea, irritability, and decreased appetite. These side effects should be resolved in a few days. A rare but serious side effect is myocarditis (inflammation of the heart muscle) or pericarditis (inflammation of the lining outside the heart). These cases are rare and can happen due to a COVID-19 infection itself.

Insurance coverage for the vaccine will be determined by your child’s health insurance plan. The patient will be billed for the vaccine if not covered by your child’s health insurance. For patients 12 years and older the CPT codes needed to verify insurance coverage are 91320 and 90480. For patients 6 months through 11 years the CPT codes are 91321 and 90480. Please use these codes if you would like to contact your insurance to determine if your plan will cover this year’s covid vaccine.
