Personal Interests
Outside of medicine, my greatest joy is building a life with my family. My husband and I feel incredibly grateful to be here in PTC, raising our growing family close to loved ones, and creating the kind of home where everyone is always welcome around the dinner table.
I'm known for turning simple ideas into ambitious projects. One weekend you might find me working in the garden, tackling a home improvement project, visiting a local farmers market, or convincing my family it's time for another homestead adventure. I love learning new skills, working with my hands, and seeing an idea come to life.
As my roots are Italian, cooking has always been one of my favorite ways to show love. There's nothing better than gathering family and friends around a meal made from scratch—especially when some of the ingredients came straight from the garden. Those simple moments together are some of my favorites.
When I'm ready for a little adventure, you'll usually find me on a hiking trail, ski slope, or golf course. I grew up playing golf, and although these days I play a little more casually, it remains one of my favorite ways to spend time with family and friends. I love hiking for the challenge just as much as the view—there's something rewarding about a little "type two fun" and earning a summit that takes your breath away.
Whether it's planning the next project, exploring somewhere new, or sharing a meal with the people I love, I'm happiest when I'm building something meaningful. I look forward to building lasting relationships and becoming a familiar face in the community my family is proud to call home.
Biography
Dr. Cayla Van Alstine was born into a military family and spent part of her early childhood living in Germany before growing up in southeast Alabama. From an early age, she developed a love for the outdoors, competition, and community through the game of golf—a passion that eventually led her to meet her husband.
She earned her bachelor's degree in Biology from Florida State University, where she spent most of her time working diligently in a research laboratory.
Before beginning medical school, she and her future husband took time to explore the country together, visiting many of America's national parks where the end of their journey left them living and working in Alaska for a short time. The experience deepened her appreciation for people from all walks of life and reinforced her desire to pursue a career centered on serving others.
Dr. Van Alstine completed her medical degree at the University of South Alabama and her Family Medicine residency in Utah, where she received broad-spectrum training caring for patients of all ages in both outpatient and hospital settings. While she valued the experiences and friendships she gained in the West, she always knew she wanted to return to the Southeast.
Today, she is proud to call Georgia home, where she looks forward to building lasting relationships with her patients while also putting down roots with her own growing family. She believes the best family medicine is built on trust, continuity, and caring for generations of families throughout every stage of life.
