Biography

Pulmonologist and intensivist Akinyinka Ajelabi, MD, brings more than a decade of experience in pulmonary care to Kingwood Pulmonary, PA, serving men and women in Kingwood, Texas, and throughout Harris County.

Dr. Ajelabi was born and raised in Ibadan, Nigeria. He began his professional pursuits at the University of Ilorin in Ilorin, Nigeria, where he earned his Doctor of Medicine. Dr. Ajelabi subsequently completed a rotational internship at Base Hospital in Lagos, Nigeria, before moving to the United States in 1997.

Upon moving to America, Dr. Ajelabi settled in New York City. He completed his internship and residency at the Bronx-Lebanon Hospital Center, serving in the department of medicine. In 2000, Dr. Ajelabi moved to Mississippi and completed a fellowship in pulmonary care, critical care, and sleep medicine at the University of Mississippi Medical Center in Jackson.

Dr. Ajelabi is board certified by the American Board of Internal Medicine and the American Board of Sleep Medicine. Since entering private practice, he’s held a number of positions, including medical director, staff pulmonologist, and intensivist. He is also the medical director of the ICU Kingwood Medical Center.

Dr. Ajelabi has a breadth of experience and a depth of knowledge in all respiratory and pulmonary issues. He always sets aside plenty of time to meet with new patients and develops treatment plans based on their individual medical histories and concerns.

Dr. Ajelabi proudly holds membership in the American College of Chest Physicians, the American College of Physicians, and the American Thoracic Society. He’s also earned a number of awards during the course of his career, including Physician of the Year in 2013.
