Biography
Dr. Sumi Makkar Sexton is a founding partner and president of Premier Primary Care Physicians, serving patients in the greater Washington, D.C., area since 2003. She is Professor of Family Medicine at the Georgetown University School of Medicine and Editor-in-Chief for one of the most-widely read journals in primary care, American Family Physician. She is also Editor in Chief of FP Essentials, and she wrote a book entitled "Pacifiers Anonymous: How to Kick the Pacifier or Thumb Sucking Habit".
Dr. Sexton's practice has been part of Privia Medical Group since 2014, and she has served in multiple leadership roles. She currently spends half of her time in the office caring for newborns through aging adults, and the remaining time is spent managing the publications, teaching, and practice administration. Outside of work she enjoys yoga, group fitness classes, and traveling with her husband and two daughters — often accompanied by their Bedlington Terrier, who considers herself an essential member of the travel team.
