Acute Care

An acute care visit is a type of medical appointment that is designed to address a sudden or severe health problem that requires prompt attention.

Acute care visits are usually unplanned and can occur outside of regular office hours. They are intended to provide prompt and effective treatment for a range of illnesses and injuries, such as:

  • Fever and flu-like symptoms
  • Sore throat and other infections
  • Asthma and other respiratory problems
  • Migraines and other headache disorders
  • Skin rashes and other skin conditions
  • Musculoskeletal injuries, such as sprains or fractures
  • Gastrointestinal problems, such as abdominal pain or nausea
  • Urinary tract infections and other urinary problems
  • Eye infections and other eye problems

During an acute care visit, your healthcare provider will take a thorough history, perform a physical examination, and order any necessary tests or imaging studies to diagnose your condition. They will then develop a treatment plan to help relieve your symptoms and get you on the road to recovery. Depending on the severity of your condition, you may be seen by a doctor, nurse practitioner, or physician assistant.
