Prenatal Consultation

We understand that choosing a pediatrician is an extremely important decision in your life. Your pediatrician should be someone you are comfortable asking questions and getting information that you need for your child. In order to help our families feel confident in their decision to choose us, we offer free prenatal appointments where you can meet with us to ensure you feel that The McCuiston Group is a good fit for your family.

If you decide to partner with us to care for your child, we would like to see your baby 2-3 days after discharge from the hospital. Please let the providers and newborn nursing staff at the hospital know that you will be following up with The McCuiston Group. Please call our office before leaving the hospital as soon as your new baby is discharged to schedule your first newborn visit!

What to expect in the newborn nursery

Testing & Examinations:

Your baby will be examined by the newborn specialist at your hospital. The baby will be seen after birth and each day that you are in the hospital. They will undergo a hearing screen, heart screen and in some cases a car seat screen before you are discharged.

Newborn Screen: After 24 hours of age the baby will get a heel stick to test for a number of metabolic disorders via a NEWBORN SCREEN, which is required by the state. We will discuss your results at the 1 month well visit.

Prevention & Vaccines: After the delivery, your newborn will receive an injection of Vitamin K to help boost clotting factors in the blood system. An antibiotic ointment will be applied to their eyes to treat any possibility of infection after delivery. They will also receive their first Hepatitis B vaccine.

When your child is born, please call our office to schedule the first appointment, which is usually 1-3 days after you are discharged from the hospital.
