RSV

If you have an infant under 8 months old born during or entering their first RSV season, your child will be eligible for the RSV inoculation.

It is a monoclonal antibody that helps protect from RSV and is approved to infants from October through March. Ideally, infants receive it during the first week of life and babies born outside that season from April through September, should receive it during the months of October and November.

  • The dosing is based on weight and we have both products available at our office.
  • 50mg inoculations is for infants less than 5kg (< 11 lbs) and 100mg in infants more than 5kg (> 11 lbs).

Infants whose mothers received the maternal RSV vaccine (Abrysvo) at least 14 days before birth typically do not need Beyfortus, although providers may consider it based on clinical judgment.

Some children aged 8 month to 19 months might be at high risk and qualify for a second season of a Beyfortus inoculation. Those are children with chronic lung disease of prematurity, severe immunocompromise, specific criteria in cystic fibrosis, and being American Indian or Alaska Native.

Prior authorization may be necessary for children aged 8 months and older depending on insurance. Beyfortus is not recommended for children 20 months or older.
